How to create Kinetic Typography in Alight Motion?

To create kinetic typography in Alight Motion, we will add the Offset Effect and add 3 to 4 keyframes on the layer with an appropriate distance depending on the length of the layer.

The Offset Effect is a type of effect that helps to shift the object from its original position. It can be applied to the position, scale, rotation, and opacity of an object.

  • Open Alight Motion on your device, whether it’s Android, iOS, or desktop.
  • Create a project with the required resolution, frame rate, and background.
  • Click on the “+” button and add text to create your kinetic animation.
  • Choose your desired fonts, colors, and sizes for the text.
  • Increase the layer size to set the animation time to your desired length, such as 10 or 20 seconds.
  • Click on the “Effect” option and choose “Move & Transform.”
  • Add an offset effect with standard settings.
  • In the offset properties, add one keyframe at the start and change the offset Y value to -2025.
  • Move the playhead to the center of the layer and add a keyframe, then change the offset Y value to 0 to return the text to its original position.
  • Move a little bit forward in the animation and add another keyframe on the layer.
  • Change the offset Y value to +2025 for this keyframe.
  • Move the layer forward and add another keyframe, changing the offset Y value to 0.
  • Move the layer forward again and add a keyframe at the end.
  • Change the offset Y value to -2025 for this final keyframe.

The Kinetic Typography animation has been created. However, to make it smoother and more professional, we need to add bezier properties.

  • Come to the start of the layer or keyframe and click on the Bezier properties.
  • Select the Cubic Bezier Easing properties and adjust the graph.
  • Move to the second, third, and fourth keyframes and repeat the process.
  • After that, play your animation and you will see the difference between before and after applying the Bezier curves.
  • Finally, at the end of the layer, open the Offset Effect properties.
  • Change the Feather Value to 300.

After that, we need to apply another effect called Spin.

  • Open the Effect panel and choose Move & Transform.
  • Add Spin Effect on the same layer with standard settings.
  • Move the playhead to the center of the layer and near to the end of the layer.
  • Change the RPM (Rotations Per Minute) value to 15 or whatever suits your project.
  • It will help to spin your animated text.

Add another effect from the same Move & Transform panel in Alight Motion.

  • Open the Effect panel and choose the Pulse Size effect.
  • Apply this effect with standard settings.
  • Move the playhead to the center of the layer near to the end.
  • Add the following values: Frequency (1.00HZ), Shrink (0.100), Grow (1.50), and Starting Phase (2.00).

Now open Blending and Opacity settings.

  • Add a keyframe at the start of the layer and change the opacity to 0 percent.
  • Move a little bit forward and add another keyframe, then change the opacity from 0 to 100.
  • Move to the end of the layer and add a keyframe, then change the opacity value from 100 to 0.
  • Now you have created one layer with kinetic typography animation professionally.
  • After that, you can duplicate the layer and change the text according to your preference.
